Challenge

To create a fictional and interactive series of films about the dangers of using social media by British army soldiers while on base. To work on a live army base with a group of actors and convey a sense of impending danger based on the actions of the characters who use social media without thinking about the threats of consequences of their choices.

Insight

We were told that new recruits might choose to act naïvely but more experienced soldiers may be complacent, if not mindful of newly emerging technological threats.

We knew the British army is organised in a hierarchy, with different ranks and responsibilities. This had to be reflected in the military uniforms of the characters and also how they acted.

Solution

We cast a diverse range of actors to reflect a modern British Army. We worked with these actors before the shoot date to establish backstories for their characters, which would help them make more natural choices, so their performances were convincing. We worked with British Army to source the correct uniforms, epaulettes and badges. Through working with one of our directors the actors gave a convincing performance to produce an engaging and foreboding warning about the dangers and threats associated with social media usage.
